The Role

The Senior Sales and Contracts Development Manager is responsible for developing and converting all non-farebox revenue opportunities across Transport for Wales (TfW) and its subsidiaries by maintaining strategic customer relationships with Transport Operating Companies (‘TOCs'), Rolling Stock Companies (‘ROSCOs'), and other third parties to enhance the commercial agenda of internal teams and ensure they deliver on service obligations.

Role responsibilities

  • Capitalise on business growth and development opportunities across the rail industry and wider transportation growth markets by developing and maintaining customer relationships to create and nurture a robust sales contracts pipeline with the aim to exceed current revenue targets.
  • Set and deliver clear commercial strategies for all customers by working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to drive whole life profitability and performance.
  • Lead the organisation and compilation of all bid work by coordinating internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to present high quality, competitive responses.
  • Leadthe negotiation of all sales contracts, including extensions and variations, by performing vigorous due diligence of proposed contract terms and conditions and identifying, addressing, and mitigating risks to protect the commercial interests of TfW and its subsidiaries.
  • Be the point of escalation for all sales contract and commercial management issues by providing timely, expert advice to ensure effective, proactive risk mitigation and management.
  • Develop and maintain all non-farebox commercial risk management processes and procedures, by liaising closely with and educating a range of internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Support the strategic direction of the Contract Management team by recommending and implementing changes or enhancements to ensure processes and procedures reflect industry best practice, mitigate new emerging risks, comply with corporate policy and governance, support an effective internal control environment and provide a sound platform for success.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learnt across the business by obtaining and delivering regular customer 360 feedback to ensure innovation, operational efficiencies, and customer service improvements are achieved.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team by discussing strategic priorities and identifying areas of concern to produce the annual business plan, budget, and ensure in year forecasts and order book are accurately maintained.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing commercial team by promoting personal development, holding regular 1-2-1s, and providing mentoring and day to day support to ensure the best talent is maintained.

Who we're looking for

  • Demonstrable experience in senior commercial and/or business development roles, preferably in rail or engineering sectors.
  • Experience of managing complex, high-value projects, and delivering results under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex commercial discussions, negotiating, and resolving issues.
  • A robust understanding of contract law, and an ability to identify commercial risk.
  • Experience of identifying and undertaking strategic customer growth initiatives to improve performance, profitability, satisfaction, and reduce commercial risk.
  • Demonstrable experience of improving the organisation's knowledge of contract and commercial management through mentoring and coaching and driving a continuous improvement agenda.
  • Experience of working within all aspects of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (‘HSEQ').

Welsh Language Skills

While not essential for this role, Welsh language skills would make a great addition to your application.
