The Role

The postholder will lead teams and projects, creatively applying inclusive, human centred, collaborative design approaches to design resilient, welcoming, healthy places and streets, in order to enhance the daily experience of people choosing to walk, wheel and cycle on every-day trips in Wales.

 

Role responsibilities

  • Lead TfW's capability in the design of high-quality places and streets, including raingardens, SuDS, landscape design, street-trees, seating and furniture, transport interchanges and play features, by establishing a common understanding of high-quality, human-centred, inclusive, sustainable and collaborative design practice, to align with the Placemaking Wales Charter, along with TfW's vision and values.
  • Approve and oversee the development of concept, detailed designs and construction information for active travel and placemaking infrastructure projects by following the appropriate design standards, legislation and guidance such as ATAG, DMRB, WelTAG, MCHW MfS and MfS2 to create active travel projects that meet community and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and communities to develop design options that meet specific local needs and constraints, by collaborating with Client Officers and providing technical guidance to the wider team to make sure projects are delivered to scope, time, cost and quality.
  • Lead the preparation of project drawings, planting plans visualisations, technical specifications and CDM information by providing technical oversight and input when completing tender documentation to enable clients to tender the delivery of the works.

 

Who we're looking for

  • Educated to degree level or similar in urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or similar (or have equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrable experience of developing designs that respond to safety, health, inclusion and wellbeing, including thorough knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary infrastructure design projects and programs, including public realm, SuDS, active travel, street design and/or urban design.\
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Welsh Language Skills

While not essential for this role, Welsh language skills would make a great addition to your application.
