The Role

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Commercial projects team in delivering the commercial programmes portfolio including commercially focused transport related projects as well as business change projects to improve transport services, operational efficiency, and driving commercial Income in line with Welsh Government (WG) transport policy and strategy. The role may include sole responsibility for delivering one or 2 smaller projects as well as supporting on larger complex programmes.

Role responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of transport related projects by applying robust project lifecycle methodologies (such as APM or PRINCE 2), implementing the project plan, schedule of all tasks, key milestones, resource management and support Project Managers to ensure these are completed safely to time, cost and quality.
  • Support in the delivery of the Commercial Property Growth Plan by working with SMEs to deliver opportunities for revenue generation and/or savings across the business, by providing delivery capability to the Client teams.
  • Support in the delivery of the Cyfuno Joint Industry programme and the Ffeiber Programme by delivering support to the programme leads as well as project leads across the key workstreams.
  • Lead on the acceptance of permits for delivery of retail focused schemes on stations by working with safety and project SMEs to ensure effective delivery of Retail enhancement schemes.
  • Develop the commercial offering at our stations by providing guidance on processes, such as landlords consent, tracking progress against service level agreements and escalating issues to the Project Manager to facilitate works on stations.
  • Provide a professional and effective project management service by ensuring adherence to project governance, creating succinct and informative reporting and taking part in technical working groups and executive steering groups to ensure the projects are aligned to TfW processes and delivered to time, cost, and quality.
  • Track project progress and provide regular reports to a variety of stakeholders by supporting the Project Manager to establish and implement the project plan, including a schedule of all tasks, key milestones and resource management to ensure TfW delivers projects to time, cost and quality.
  • Identify and monitor project risks, including financial, reputational, quality, environmental and health and safety, collaborating with the appropriate TfW risk professionals and managing the risk register, supporting the Project Managers to ensure TfW can implement effective mitigation.
  • Responsible for the management of the Technical Advisory Framework by creating task orders, tracking start and finish dates of commissioned work, working closely with the procurement contracts and finance team and by raising any issues to the Head of Sponsorship and Commercial Programmes to ensure work is commissioned correctly and purchase orders are in place.
  •  Support the project team by attending risk meetings and providing documentation support to ensure that we have identified risk mitigation measures and have the appropriate project governance.

Who we're looking for

  • Have or working towards a project management qualification such as APM or PRINCE2
  • Previous experience of working within project management.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in support of a robust safety culture.
  • Experience of administering project management documentation including; project action trackers, programmes, project reporting, risk and issue processes.
  • Ability to work within project governance processes.
